As per details from Census 2011, Daman and Diu have a population of 2.43 Lakhs, an increase from the figure of 1.58 Lakh in the 2001 census. The total population of Daman and Diu as per the 2011 census is 243,247 of which male and female are 150,301 and 92,946 respectively. In 2001, the total population was 158,204 in which males were 92,512 while females were 65,692. The total population growth in this decade was 53.76 percent while in the previous decade it was 55.59 percent. The population of Daman and Diu forms 0.02 percent of India in 2011. In 2001, the figure was 0.02 percent.

In 2011–2013, it was revealed through a population census with the Sample Registration System (SRS) that the sex ratio of India was 909 females per 1000 males. Presently, it has skewed downwards from then, recording 900 females per 1000 males in 2013–2015.
